With Grayl water bottles, natural water becomes drinkable
Grayl’s specially designed water bottles combine a water purifier and a water bottle into one. Filtering water is an excellent way to save weight during hikes since you don’t need to carry all your drinking water from home. On longer hikes, it’s not even possible to carry all the water with you.

Purifying natural water is especially convenient in Finland, as water can be found in our country’s thousands of lakes, rivers, streams, and other bodies of water. Grayl's filtering water bottles can also be taken abroad, allowing you to safely drink tap water even in countries where tap water might otherwise be questionable.

Grayl purifies water using a filter
The Grayl filter is highly effective in water purification, combining physical filtration and chemical treatment. It uses a gravity-based mechanism where water is pressed through the filter. The process is as follows:
  1. Pouring water: Water is poured into the outer container, which resembles a regular water bottle.
  2. Starting filtration: The inner container, containing the filter, is pressed onto the water. This is called the "press-to-clean" mechanism.
  3. Filtration process: As water is forced through the filter, the activated carbon layer and chemical treatment remove bacteria, viruses, protozoa, chemicals, heavy metals, and impurities.
  4. Filtered water: Once the water has passed through the filter, it is drinkable. The filter effectively removes nearly all harmful microorganisms and impurities.
The differences between Grayl models are mainly in their size, weight, and the amount of water they can filter, but all are equally effective in purifying water. The Grayl GeoPress model can filter up to 710 ml of water in about 8 seconds. The Grayl UltraPress is slightly smaller and lighter than the GeoPress and filters about 500 ml of water in 10 seconds. The Grayl UltraLight is the lightest in the Grayl filter lineup, filtering 473 ml of water in about 15 seconds.

Longevity with filter replacement
The Grayl filter removes waterborne pathogens (viruses, bacteria, protozoa), including rotavirus, hepatitis A, norovirus, Giardia, E. Coli, cholera, salmonella, and many other harmful organisms.
In addition, it filters out particles like sediment, microplastics, various chemicals, pesticides, and heavy metals. The water filtered through it is not only safe but also tastes better, is clearer, and has less odor.

Like all filters, Grayl filters have a limited lifespan.
The lifespan of the UltraLight and UltraPress filters is around 300 presses, or about 150 liters, depending on the impurities in the water being filtered. The GeoPress filter lasts a bit longer, around 350 presses or 250 liters of drinking water.

A good rule of thumb is that when the pressing time is around 25-30 seconds, it’s time to replace the filter. A longer filtering time doesn’t mean the filter isn’t working safely anymore, just that the process becomes slower.

The GeoPress Nesting Cup is perfect for camping
The GeoPress Nesting Cup & Lid is a camp mug with a lid that is perfectly compatible with the GeoPress water purifier bottle. It also functions as a camping pot for cooking on an open fire or stove. The cup is designed to fit the GeoPress water purifier seamlessly inside, saving a lot of space when packing.

The Nesting Cup is fire-resistant and suitable for cooking on an open fire, camping stove, or coals. Its large handles can accommodate bigger hands, even when wearing gloves. The foldable handles can be pushed aside for easier packing. Thanks to the perforated lid, excess water can be easily poured out of the cup. The durable single-wall structure is made of food-grade 304 stainless steel. A final excellent detail is the laser-engraved measurement scale, allowing you to pour the perfect amount of water for your camp meal, avoiding watery stroganoff.
